Operational Changes Around COVID-19
We join you, your families, your neighbors, your friends and your loved ones in paying very close attention to the ever evolving details around the Coronavirus/COVID-19. We have been monitoring the recommendations of national, state and local officials throughout the last several days – each of the forty-nine counties in our Upstate New York service area are feeling effects that seem to be changing minute-by-minute.
We are also vigilantly mindful that so many in our Komen community are at an increased risk – the transfer of germs and social distancing are already part of the day-to-day struggle for so many.
But the breast cancer community overcomes struggles and rises up to challenges each and everyday – and we know that today will be no different.
We encourage one another, we support one another, we rally to meet the needs of those who could use a helping hand, a kind word or a thoughtful check-in.
Even with uncertainty and unpredictability around what might come next, we want you to know that we are here for you – no one fights alone. We made a promise to be bold in our fight against breast cancer – and together, we are prepared to press ahead with caution. But, we are altering what that looks like based on the safety and well-being of our entire Komen community.
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW:
- We have transitioned all staff to work from home until at least mid-April. We are actually well prepared for this move, as we have been working hard to migrate to a cloud-based environment for efficiency purposes.
We will still be here and reachable when you need us! Our office numbers will continue to function, and are listed below for your convenience:
Central New York Regional Office in Syracuse – 315.472.6162
Northeastern New York Regional Office in Albany – 518.261.1705
Twin Tiers Regional Office in Elmira – 607.203.0095

Additionally, our national Breast Cancer Helpline remains open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to10:00 p.m. You can reach them at 1-877 GO KOMEN or via email at email@example.com.
- We are working with our committees to determine which of our spring events needs to be rescheduled. Please continue to watch your email, our event websites and our social media channels for updates on our MORE THAN PINK Walks and our Race for the Cure events.
For now, you may continue to see Walk/Race fundraising messaging (via email, social media, and maybe even a few Google ads) as usual.
We assure you our volunteer committee members and our Affiliate Leadership are working diligently and thoughtfully through all options at this time. We promise to keep you up-to-date as decisions are made – and we can assure you that the health and safety of our entire Komen community is at the forefront of planning discussions.
- We are continuing to press forward with plans for our summer and fall events across Upstate New York. We have a few fun and exciting new activities in the works, and we look forward to using this time to ask for your input via surveys, social media discussions, etc.
You and your families are in our hearts as we all navigate what will be our new-normal, at least (and hopefully!) for the short term. We wish you all health & safety.
